Fishing and beer are places to start

Fishing and beer are things I enjoy, sure, but they are really just places to start. I like to write short stories, creative non-fiction, and hopefully clever snippets that elicit a feeling, whether it’s big feelings like remorse or nostalgia or just that little spark you get when you hear a good metaphor or simile, when two seemingly different ideas are juxtaposed and they make a connection that’s new to you but seems like you’ve known it forever, that spark you get when you hear a good rhyme or the way some words sound or feel or look together. Or maybe you’ll question the very fabric of your reality in a panic-fueled meltdown of your core beliefs? While of course I hope everybody enjoys my writing, I realize it can be a little weird. I can’t help it.

So welcome, weirdos, I hope you find something that hits you in the feels and makes you think.

I hesitate to say that I’m an expert on anything, but in terms of sharing some bona fides, if you care, I will say I have worked as a fishing and/or brewing professional for most of my adult life. I have a keen sense of the sublime and I cry easily. One time in college I did too much acid and listened to Dizzy Gillespie scatting and my heart almost exploded. I’m still a BBQ and sourdough novice, but love smoking meat and baking bread. I’ve been doing Youtube for a couple years and even started a podcast. I’ve been writing for magazines very sporadically for a while and you can see a list of my publications below.

Rarely about fishing, almost never about beer.
